New (hard copy) OHS magazine

The European Trade Union Institute (ETUI) has upgraded its newsletter to a hard-copy six-monthly magazine called HesaMAG.  SafetyAtWorkBlog received its copy a couple of days ago and we applaud the ETUI for being innovative by going backwards.

The newsletter publishing cycle was almost gone full circle over the last decade by returning to to value the practicality and usefulness of hard copy publications.  In OHS, where the communication AND the sharing of information is essential, hard copy publications are very important.  Yes email newsletters can be quickly distributed and shared on intranets but there are many employees who do not use computers on a daily basis.

All the email newsletters I have produced over the years have been distributed as email attachments in PDF format specifically so that they can be printed.  I have seen the newsletters printed and archived in folders.  There have been specific articles pinned to OHS notice boards.  The old SafetyATWORK magazine was able to be printed multiple times and shared through OHS committee members and companies under one subscription.

The first edition of HesaMAG provides a good analysis of various elements in the nanotechnology safety debate and it will be read over the next few days – when away from the computer screen.
