How did 2024 go?

At Christmas time, it is traditional for bloggers to reflect on the year past and to provide some basic statistics about their blog and readership. And thank the many loyal subscribers for their support.

The SafetyAtWorkBlog is a one-person operation that works out of usual business hours, supported by hundreds of dollars of media and legislative subscriptions and the occasional conference attendance. I try to provide exclusive content, and I thank my colleagues and subscribers who allow me access to many of their events that are closed to the public. With the parlous state of the media in Australia, I am often the only media presence at these events. I wish there were many more.

This year’s most interesting change in subscribers has been the growth in corporate subscribers, who may have several hundred internal corporate readers. The advantage is more readers, however, many are not permitted to participate in social media from their work accounts, so….. I miss the comments and encourage anyone who can, please do, or contact me by phone or email. And don’t forget there is an anonymous tip-off line on the home page.

OHS is served well by a couple of legislative (and expensive) newsletters that are dominated by coverage of court cases and legal interpretations that rarely challenge our thinking. The thinking, what there is of it, is largely left to others. I try to be one of those challengers. Please let me know what you think of my efforts.

Now for some 2024 statistics:

For those wanting to know how many subscribers I have (a popular question), that’s none of your business 🙂 but I will provide some followers and connection statistics:

  • LinkedIn followers of SafetyAtWorkBlog – 1099
  • LinkedIn followers of me – 3656
  • Facebook followers of SafetyAtWorkBlog – 1400
  • X followers of me (@SafetyOz) – 2000+

This may not seem many, but to me, it is the best a part-time blogger can achieve without selling one’s soul to internet advertisers and poor-quality guest post submissions.

2025 will be the 17th year of the SafetyAtWorkBlog. I am planning a mid-year refresh and would welcome feedback from subscribers and readers.

Stay safe over this holiday period.

  1. Thanks for your great efforts this year Kevin – always something I look forward to reading every day…
Wish you all the best leading into 2025

    1. Mike, although I advocate switching off and the right to disconnect, I struggle to turn off my OHS perspectives so while I am on “holidays” for the next two weeks, plenty of blog articles will be pumped out in January. I plan for a long holiday next December, which is traditionally a quiet reading month for this blog, so maybe I will try switching off then. Happy and safe holidays, Mike.

  2. Kevin,
I very much value the work that you do and your dedication to ensure that factual information is provided.
Keep up the great work and have a wonderful, relaxing Christmas.
    Cheers Russel
