Thanks

As 2014 is about to start I wanted to thank the readers of SafetyAtWorkBlog for your continued support.  The number of articles is down a little this year principally because the full-time work I have currently, building a railway in Victoria, has limited me to around two or three articles a week.  Yet there remains around 400 readers a day and the blog again garnered some international recognition.

Curiously in 2013 a lot of traffic has come through LinkedIn which seems to be changing from a contact network to an information network, as seen with some of the very good OHS discussion forums there.  I have had regular emails from people who read the blog solely through LinkedIn so perhaps I should be adding the LinkedIn readers to the blog’s total.

Also, I should not forget SafetyOz‘s Twitter followers as we close on 1000 followers, all of which are OHS professionals, regulators or service providers.  Twitter is another way of spreading the word about SafetyAtWorkBlog articles but it also allows for much more frequent updates on stories of the day.  It is perhaps the news bulletin to SafetyAtWorkBlog’s analysis.

My railway safety contract ends in 2014 and the future is uncertain but I will continue with articles that, it seems, spark discussion or contribute to important OHS and WHS matters.  As an OHS professional it is my duty to work on keeping people safe and I hope that I can continue to help you and the profession do the same in the future.

Possible access changes to SafetyAtWorkBlog content

Several times over the years, I have had to remind people that although this blog appears on the internet, it is not free to use or republish, the most recent reminder was last month.  However very recently the intellectual property of the SafetyAtWorkBlog is almost being rewritten and reissued.

SafetyAtWorkBlog should continued to be published as an accessible information resource to all  but I must now seriously considered restricting access to many of the articles through password protection.  There are no plans to apply fees for accessing the articles but the abuse of intellectual property suggests restrictions should be applied.

I would welcome your thoughts on imposing these changes.  Please post comments as per normal or contact me directly through the link below.

Unauthorised use of SafetyAtWorkBlog articles

Recently, I had to demand that an Australia OHS news website remove the SafetyAtWorkBlog articles that it had republished on its website without my permission.

I appreciate the thanks I receive for writing this blog but if you wish to republish anything other than excerpts, please contact me.  The copyright statement that accompanies every SafetyAtWorkBlog is not for decoration and will be enforced as much as it can.

Just please ask for permission.  I am not unreasonable.

Please remember that I am a freelance writer and you are welcome to commission me to write OHS articles for you exclusively.

Lurkers welcome but participation is encouraged.

Last year I was tweeting about a conference I was attending (@SafetyOZ for those who are new to Twitter) only to have a stranger come to me at morning tea and say that they were enjoying my tweets.  This week I asked a question at a seminar on workers compensation and again a stranger introduced themselves and said to me how much they enjoy reading this blog.

To all those lurkers reading this blog please make yourself known.  Comment if you want, and don’t be afraid of sounding stupid (I’m not), as all comments are moderated and if something does not make sense, I will email you.
