It’s soon to be the tenth anniversary of the iPhone. Tech writers are preparing their articles based on comparisons of how the iPhone has changed and how it has changed the world. But there has always been a dark side to the production of the iPhone and modern technologies, as a whole.
Brian Merchant has written a book about the Apple iPhone called “The One Device“. It has been reviewed in many places already with some extracts published, but he also includes a chapter on the Foxconn factory in China where work-related suicides spiked several years ago and continue to occur . It is depressing reading but more for what it says about the consumers’ morality than about the suicides.
